Bodine Celebrates Spain in the 2007 Memphis in May BBQ Contest

Each year, The Bodine Company, its employees and more than 250 invited guests get together for Memphis In May's World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest. Spain was this year's honorary country, and Bodine certainly made Memphis' Spanish heritage known.

Bodine creatively mixed historic fact and tongue-in-cheek fiction to recreate, in true Memphis In May style, the expedition of Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto through the southeastern U.S in the 1500s. Hernando de Soto may have been in search of gold and a new route to China, but Bodine's fictional "Hognando de Soto" was happy to find pork and a beautiful river front on which to eat it. Bodine celebrated Hognando's 1541 discovery of the Mississippi River and the first barbecue in the New World by throwing its own four-day party.

Bodine's Hognando de Soto booth won the festival's Best Booth Competition at the event and will be featured in an upcoming Food Network special on the 2007 BBQ festival. Bodine's Hognando t-shirt design placed second in the Team Shirt Competition.

Not to forget about the food side, out of the 110 BBQ teams competing in the prestigious rib category, Bodine's ribs ranked 33. Also, Bodine's Mustard Sauce placed 12th and our beans placed 20th. Not too bad for a lighting company!

Now please pass the napkins.
